Caldwell's Economic Boom

One of the ways you can gauge a city’s economy is through its sales tax rebates from the state. With that in mind, view the numbers for the first quarter of 2007. Caldwell’s January rebates were 31% higher in 2007 than they were in January of 2006, and our sister city in Burleson County, Somerville, increased by 27% in the same period. In February of 2007, Caldwell’s rebates were 36% higher than the same period of 2006, and Somerville’s was also 36% higher in February 2007. For March of 2007, Caldwell’s sales tax rebates were 27% higher than March 2006, but Somerville’s was an unbelievable 68% higher for March 2007 than for March 2006! Burleson County, Texas, is the place to be if you are looking for a location for a new business, whether retail or manufacturing, and whether it is oilfield related or agriculture or light industry. Reasonable taxes and accurate appraisals, plus low utility costs, relatively inexpensive property costs, and a workforce consisting of skilled workers and/or professionals, makes Burleson County a prosperous place to be. Whether Caldwell, Somerville, or Snook, all are excellent locations. In the City of Caldwell, utility costs are as low as you will find in the state. In addition, the City is prepared to offer tax abatement and offer other incentives for you to locate your industrial facility here. Our aggressive options include the willingness to form special districts, such as TIRZ or PIDs in order to help you get started, and even include special rate contracts from Caldwell Electric Company (yes, we have our own electric power company). Again, looking at sales tax rebates, in 2001, we generated $355,632 in sales tax rebates. In 2006, that number was $512,892. We are currently on pace in 2007 to increase our 2007 rebates by 36% over 2006. That’s phenomenol! (Pardon the bragging, but that’s what these sites are for, isn’t it?) Caldwell began 2007 by surpassing all these cities in sales tax rebates, and almost all of them are larger than Caldwell, some by a significant percentage: Elgin, Navasota, Rockdale, Hutto, Cameron, Somerville, Hearne, Bellville, Smithville, and Lexington, all from the Brazos Valley part of Central Texas. Come see what Caldwell can offer your business and your employees. We have a great way of life here. We will personally take you on a tour to show you what we have to offer. Here in Caldwell, we’re planning for the future, but we have a proud history that we don’t want to forget.

Zodiac Inc. Groundbreaking 2007

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Caldwell at the Industrial Foundation business park on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at 200PM. The groundbreaking was to celebrate the beginning of construction of the new industrial complex for Zodiac Industries, Inc. Zodiac will be separating precious metals such as platinum from catalyst material, which is used in the gasoline refinery process. Zodiac's parent company, Gemini Industries, Inc. of California, has been in this business for more than 30 years, and has been very successful and profitable. By locating in Texas, Zodiac will be closer to the oil industry activity. Many local dignitaries and important business people were on hand for the groundbreaking to welcome Zodiac and to celebrate their coming to Caldwell. BCIF executive director Sal Zaccagnino started the program with introductions, and was followed by Zodiac President/CEO Dr. Mahmoud El Guindy, who explained the process to be performed by Zodiac, and further, described the goals and ambitions of Zodiac for its Caldwell operation. The brief program was concluded with remarks by State Representative Robby Cook (D-Eagle Lake), who pledged his strong support for rural economic development efforts in his district.
